What: 3.1 Phillip Lim‘s latest handbag style is ideal for day-to-night wear. The staple design by Phillip Lim features a flap-style crossbody silhouette, complete with sleek gold hardware inspired by the designer’s own personal ID bracelet. The style notably kickstarted Lim’s ID bag family, which also includes petite shoulder bag, wide soft satchel, and clutch silhouettes.

Who: Phillip Lim has led his namesake brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim, for 20 years. The designer marked his two decades in business with a star-studded runway show for his Spring 2025 collection at New York Fashion Week in September. To the surprise of the fashion industry, Lim announced his departure from the brand earlier this month. However, the label will continue to be left by Lim’s co-founder and CEO Wen Zhou as the designer pursues other creative projects in the future.

Why: The ID is a distinctly versatile handbag, featuring a squared shape with a front flap and rounded edges. Its flap-style silhouette is complete with a spacious inner pocket, which fits all of our top essentials for a day out or night on the town. A long, adjustable shoulder strap allows  for the style to be worn as a crossbody or shoulder bag, while gleaming gold hardware—directly inspired by Lim’s own ID bracelet—creates a subtle detail that’s sharp and chic. A variety of hues also ensures there’s a shade for any sensibility, spanning merlot red, pale blue, black, metallic gold, dark brown, and pale pink.
