Watch Lil Nas X’s Saturday Night Live 2021 Performances

After first being portrayed by Chris Redd back in April, Lil Nas X certainly didn’t disappoint with his official May 22 debut on Saturday Night Live. The 22-year-old artist held nothing back with his performance of “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” going so hard that he accidentally split his pants. “NOT MY PANTS RIPPED ON LIVE ON TV,” Lil Nas X tweeted during the show. “i wanted to do my pole routine so bad this what i get lmaoo,” he later added. If “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” was fire, his second performance of his new single, “Sun Goes Down,” was ice, with its stripped-down vocals and more emotional tone.

Lil Nas X’s stint as musical guest on SNL coincides with the May 21 release of “Sun Goes Down.” Much like “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” whose release saw the artist share a personal message of love and acceptance to his 14-year-old-self, Lil Nas X told People that “Sun Goes Down” is his “most vulnerable song” and later tweeted that it “is very important to me.” Both “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Sun Goes Down” are listed as tracks on Lil Nas X’s upcoming album, also titled MONTERO, which is set to be released this summer. You can watch his full performances ahead.
