Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Trailer Goes Behind the Final Episodes

A behind-the-scenes look at the eighth and final season of celebrated comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine has the cast getting sentimental over saying goodbye, as well as teasing what fans can expect from this last ride. Featuring the core cast giving interviews about how they feel now that the series is coming to an end, as well as offering a few snippets of footage from the upcoming final season, the footage is sure to have everyone attempting to hold back the sobbing for long enough to shout “Nine-Nine!”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows the exploits of the hilarious Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and his diverse, lovable colleagues as they police the NYPD’s 99th Precinct. After Capt. Raymond Holt’s (Andre Braugher) demotion to patrolman at the end of Season 6, the squad’s world is turned upside down. Rounding out the ensemble is the newly promoted Lt. Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews). Reporting to him is Sgt. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), a consummate rule-follower with a weak spot for dork dancing, and her husband, Jake. The other detectives in the squad include Jake’s best friend, Det. Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio), and the tough-as-nails Det. Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz). Also part of the Nine-Nine are veteran officers Det. Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) and Det. Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker), whose only skill as police officers is their ability to make a passable pot of coffee.

While the show’s imminent end came as a disappointment to fans, star Melissa Fumero has offered her assurance that things will be wrapped up properly. “It’s bittersweet, but I’m really proud of the show,” Fumero said recently. “I’m really proud of this season. I think it’s going to be a really satisfying end I hope for the viewers and just trying to think of it as like the victory lap, celebrating the show, celebrating the people I work with. Not trying not to take anything for granted and stay really present.”

Over the last few months, the cast have addressed the difficult position of being a comedy show centered around cops in modern America, with Andy Samberg revealing that he and everyone else involved with the show are now trying to find a way to craft the new season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with the current political climate in mind. “We’re taking a step back, and the writers are all rethinking how we’re going to move forward, as well as the cast,” Samberg said. “We’re all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about. I know that we’ll figure it out, but it’s definitely a challenge, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Samberg though has also been quick to point out that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is first and foremost a comedy show, and will still bring the laughs. “I think it’s important for us and for anyone watching our show to keep in mind if we’re looking for a half-hour comedy show to be the ones to solve this problem, we’re in trouble,” he said. “Our job is pointing out that stuff isn’t getting done right and spreading the word that we’re hopeful that it can get better.”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 will premiere its first episode on NBC on August 12, 2021, and will also be available to stream on Peacock.
