The Walking Dead Season 11 Premiere Sneak Peek Awakens Sleeping Walkers

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed…or should I say “woke up on the wrong side of the floor covered in zombies”? Ahead of its final season debut, AMC’s The Walking Dead has revealed a sneak peek preview of what’s to come during the final season premiere later this week. The upcoming first episode, “Acheron: Part 1”, is now streaming early on AMC+ ahead on its premiere on August 22nd on AMC. The Walking Dead is an American post-apocalyptic horror television series based on the comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. Check out the premiere sneak peek called, ‘A Drop of Blood’, below!

During the 90-second sneak peak clip, the current survivors of the popular horror series such as Daryl, Maggie, Carol, and a few other members of the group, can be seen sneaking into an abandoned military base, and stealing MREs for obvious reasons. That sounds pretty easy enough, right? When it comes to The Walking Dead, some things are never accomplished so easily. Although it can be seen that the survivors are hoisting up the delicious MREs onto the upper level, the remaining characters down below are completely surrounded by sleeping zombies. Yes it’s true, the large group of zombies were actually SLEEPING.

Believe it or not, these “sleeping zombies” are actually a thing in The Walking Dead comic book universe. They are officially called, Lurkers, which are zombies known to play dead due to famish and starvation. While the members of the group are hoisting up the MREs, the rope ends up snapping which of course, Daryl makes the split second decision to catch the bag of MREs with his hand. It is then revealed that a pretty deep cut on Daryl’s forearm, is dripping blood, which then resulst with “a drop of blood” (see what I did there?), falling down onto the face of a sleeping Lurker. From that point on, its quite obvious what’s going to happen next.

In the upcoming final season, the Alexandrians will fight the dead, and prepare for the recent arrival of the Reapers, which are an elite killing squad hunting Maggie and the Wardens. Another story will unfold in Charleston, West Virginia, where Eugene (Josh McDermitt), and his traveling companions encounter an advanced community known as, the Commonwealth. In a recently released official trailer for season 11 of The Walking Dead, Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) is leading the way through a walker infested tunnel beneath Washington D.C. You can check out the trailer below.

“We’re sort of being drawn, as you can tell from the trailer, underground,” Reedus teased of the two-parter on Sunday’s live Walking Dead Season 11 Preview Special. “We don’t know exactly what’s waiting for us, so I kind of get separated for a bit, and then just all hell breaks loose. There’s somebody after us, and we’re trying to beat them to the punch, and we might not.”

“There’s a lot going on,” said Reedus. “It’s not just one road we travel down, it’s like 15 different roads, and they all kind of lead to one place, and then the doors open and there’s 15 new roads going in 15 new places. Everybody has different storylines which are sort of related and some aren’t, we’ve definitely branched out like a tree going on in all different directions. There’s a lot.”

The official synopsis for the final season reads, Returning to Alexandria from a critical food mission, the group realizes it isn’t enough. Maggie proposes a new plan, potentially a suicide mission. What choice do they have? They must find more food for all their people in order to survive and efficiently rebuild Alexandria. If they don’t, Alexandria falls, taking them down with it. Once on the road, a violent storm erupts forcing them underground into a subway tunnel. As nerves fray and suspicions increase, chaos ensues. The terror is relentless as our people get a glimpse of what Maggie and her group endured prior to returning to Alexandria. Meanwhile, those captured by the strange soldiers are relocated to another undisclosed location. The Walking Dead will return with a two part season premiere on August 24th on AMC. “Acheron: Part 1” is currently available for early streaming on AMC+. The final season of The Walking Dead will consist of 24 episodes.
