Former Blue’s Clues Host Tells Fans He Never Forgot Them in Heartfelt Video

Former Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns has reemerged in character in an all-new video in honor of the show’s 25th anniversary. From 1996 until 2002, Steve served as the original host of the long-running children’s show, earning a Daytime Emmy nomination during that time for his work. When he left the series, Donovan Patton was brought in as his storyline brother Joe to keep Blue’s Clues going in Steve’s absence.

On Twitter, Nick Jr. shared a video with the hashtag #BluesClues25. It features Steve, in character, delivering a long, heartfelt speech addressing his exit from the series in 2002. He then goes on to explain how much the fans mean to him, explaining how he never forgot about them and remains happy they’re still “friends.” It’s clearly emotional for Steve to say, and watching it may also pull some heartstrings for those who remember watching the series as kids or showing it to their own. So about that time Steve went off to college… #BluesClues25pic.twitter.com/O8NOM2eRjy

“Hi, you got a second? Okay. You remember how when we were younger we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff and then one day I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news… I’m leaving. This is my brother Joe, he’s your new best friend.’ And then I got on a bus and I left, and we didn’t see each other for a really long time. Can we just talk about that? Great.”

Steve Burns then uses his character’s storyline trip to college as a metaphor to describe the things he’s gone on to do since leaving Blue’s Clues. In reality, he has spent a lot of time working on his music career while acting in various projects in different roles. In character, Steve then addresses his fans who’ve since grown up and are now dealing with adult issues of their own. As Steve explains:

“Because I realize that was kind of abrupt. I just kinda got up and went to college, and that was really challenging by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time and now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do. And then look at you, and all you have accomplished in all that time and it’s just… it’s so amazing, right? I mean, we started out with clues, and now it’s what? Student loans? And jobs. And families. And some of it has been kind of hard, you know. I know you know.”

Steve and everyone who has childhood memories of watching him on Blue’s Clues might be much older now, but the former host of the popular children’s show is making it clear he hasn’t forgotten those days. He notes how the show has stayed with him to this day, continuing to help him just as much now as it did then. In a moment that just might bring a tear to the eye, Steve promises his fans and the former Blue’s Clues viewers that he never forgot about them, even if they’re all grown up now.

“I wanted to tell you that I really couldn’t have done all of that without your help. And, in fact, all the help that you helped me with when we were younger is still helping me today. Right now. And that’s super cool. I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years I never forgot you… ever. And I’m super glad we’re still friends. Thanks for listening. You look great by the way. Whatever it is you’re doing, it’s working.”

The series lives on with Blue’s Clues & You, with Josh Dela Cruz now serving as the host with Blue. Steve and Joe actor Donovan Patton have both made guest appearances on the show. Josh is doing great with this new role for a new generation, but longtime fans will never forget Steve. The new video comes to us from Nick Jr. on Twitter.
