Harley Quinn Season 3 Footage Unveiled at DC FanDome

As part of this weekend’s DC FanDome event, which gave a whole lot of love to the world of Batman in the form of teasers and trailers for upcoming movie’s The Batman and The Flash, as well a TV shows like Batman: Caped Crusader, and we also got a first look at another Gotham related show with the arrival of new footage from the third season of the HBO Max animated series Harley Quinn, the brilliantly crafted series about the Joker’s occasional love interest who is, in the context of the show, more interested in making herself the greatest villain of the Batman universe.

The second season reached its finale with Poison Ivy, voiced by Lake Bell, almost getting hitched to Kite-Man, but finding things not quite going to plan thanks to an interruption from the GCPD, led by Jim Gordon, and not only that but Ivy also had to contend with Harley, voiced with glee by The Big Bang Theory’ s Kaley Cuoco, confessing her love for her, which ultimately led to the pair driving off into the sunset like a comic book Thelma and Louise. So where does that take us in season 3? Well like most of the upcoming DC slate, details are sparse other than to say we know that the couple are now officially a couple and seeing how their relationship fares through the chaos that is likely to ensue is going to be worth tuning in for.

As well as Kuoco and Bell returning, the voice cast also boasts Tony Hale as Doctor Psycho, Alan Tudyk as Harley’s ex the Joker and aspiring thespian Clayface, Ron Funches as King Shark, Jason Alexander as Sy Borgman, J.B. Smoove as Frank the plant, Christopher Meloni as Jim Gordon, Diedrich Bader as Batman, Briana Cuoco as Batgirl, Giancarlo Esposito as Lex Luthor, Alfred Molina as Mr. Freeze, Sanaa Lathan as Catwoman, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

A fun teaser for season 3 on HBO Max sees Harley welcoming fans, and comically announcing that despite “burning the midnight oil” and with some artists dying of “acute carpal tunnel”, the season is still not ready. An interruption by King Shark, who announces he ate the hard drive containing the footage for DC FanDome and it is wireless uploading then leads into a series of almost storyboard images play through, featuring some of the scenes from the upcoming season, mostly in simple pencil sketches. Cutting back to Harley, she acknowledges that it will look better when the “crayon guy” colors it and the sound effects guys do their “pew pew”, which we have no doubt will be true.

Other than the announcement that the new season of Harley Quinn will arrive sometime in the 2022, and the DC FanDome footage, there is no update on exactly when we will see the third season of the show, but considering there still seems to be quite a bit of work to be done, it would be safe to assume it will be mid-to-late 2022 when Harley and Ivy get back on their “Eat Bang Kill Tour.”
