Resurrections International and Character Posters Are Making Waves in the Rain

If you made it to the movie theaters this weekend, you probaly caught The Matrix: Resurrections trailer on the big screen. While we’ve seen the trailer on the tube, just the taste on the silver screen had the Ghostbusters: Afterlife audience I was seated with pumping their fists, and quietly murmuring, which is saying something for The Alamo Drafthouse. Those cinephiles are not messing aroung with those talking rules, thank goodness! But the audience couldn’t help themselves; you could feel the excitement for the saga to continue. Today Warner Bros. is continuing to amp The Matrix fans up, releasing a slew of posters, including all of the players and two new international posters featuring our dynamic duo, Neo and Trinity.

Let us start off with one of our newbies to the franchise, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who will portray Morpheus. He spoke of stepping into the role, saying, “Laurence already did what had to be done. I think what the script provided was a new narrative and some new opportunities that did make room within the Matrixuniverse for a new Morpheus… This is definitely a different iteration of the character. I play a character who’s definitely aware of the history of the Matrix [and] the history of Morpheus. This character is on a journey of self-discovery. There’s a lot in our story that’s about growth, defining your own path. Morpheus isn’t exempt from that.”

The international posters show our duo teaming up, once again, in their siganture trench coats and shades. “We have a wonderful director, Lana Wachowski, and she has written a beautiful script that is a love story, it’s inspiring,” Reeves said recently. “It’s another version, a call to wake up and it has some great action. All will be revealed.”

The Matrix Resurrections picks up from where the first film left off with our original duo Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), seemingly having forgotten the events from the films sandwiched between, and is probably the most impactful in delivering that magical combination of nostalgia and originality the audience is calling for. The official synopsis reads, “In a world of two realities – everyday life and what lies behind it – Thomas Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. Choice, while an illusion, is still the only way in or out of the Matrix, which is stronger, more secure, and more dangerous than ever before.”

Along with our heroic duo, the ensemble cast boasts Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Christina Ricci, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II playing a young Morpheus, Jonathan Groff, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Daniel Bernhardt playing Agent Johnson, Writing duties were shared for the Lana Wachowski directed film by David Mitchell, Aleksandar Hemon, and of course, Lana Wachowski. The Matrix: Resurrections releases in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22.
