House of The Dragon is IMDb’s Most Anticipated Original TV Series of 2022

What new TV series are you most looking forward to in 2022? According to IMDb, House of The Dragon could well be on your list after the Game of Thrones prequel series took top spot on their list of the ten most anticipated original TV shows coming to the small screen next year. Despite Game of Thrones coming to a disappointing end for most fans, that hasn’t stopped Warner Bros. putting a number of spin-off series into production for HBO based on the works of George R.R. Martin, with the first one being an adaptation of the author’s 2018 novel, Fire & Blood, telling the story of the Targaryen family 200 years prior to the events of the Song of Ice and Fire saga.

While 2022 is stacking up to be a big year in both film and television, House of the Dragon taking the top spot on the list is a sign of how much audiences are ready to be transported back to the Seven Kingdoms. Considering it is now over two years since Game of Thrones aired its finale in May 2019 to uproar from fans over its controversial ending, and there are still active petitions for HBO to remake the final season, it seems that returning to adapt another novel of Martin’s is enough for fans to at least put their annoyance at how one Targaryen’s story came to an end to one side in order to discover what preceded it.

House of the Dragon focuses on the Targaryen family in the events that lead to the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that caused a bloodbath among the dragonriders. Being set two centuries before Game of Thrones, the series will introduce a whole wave of new characters to the franchise, such as King Viserys Targaryen, his children Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon, Hand of the King Ser Otto Hightower and Lady Alicent, his daughter. With an ensemble cast of Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and Rhys Ifans, the series has no shortage of talent, and with Martin’s novel to work from, the series can hopefully avoid the same kind of disappointing ending that befell its predecessor.

While House of the Dragon’s top position will be good news for Warner Bros, who also managed to land the top spot on IMDb’s most anticipated movie list with The Batman, it is fair to say that Amazon will be probably a little bit annoyed that their upcoming Lord of the Rings series, the one is costing them around $1 billion when all is said and done, only managed take the runner up spot in #2 on the list. With the rest of the top five being made up of Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, Netflix’s adaptation of The Sandman, and HBO videogame adaptation The Last of Us, it is then left to the big franchises of Marvel, DC and Star Wars to make up the lower part of the list, as can be seen below.

1. House of the Dragon

2. The Lord of the Rings

3. Pam & Tommy

4. The Sandman

5. The Last of Us

6. Obi-Wan Kenobi

7. She-Hulk

8. Ms. Marvel

9. Peacemaker

10. Moon Knight

While many of the titles on the list have all had a fair share of publicity, whether from early reveals and previews at various events such as Netflix’s TUDUM or Disney+ Day or the numerous trailers and clips released for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad spin-off Peacemaker, it is likely that some of the biggest movies of 2022 will not actually feature on this list and will instead be one of the many returning series such as Stranger Things, Ted Lasso, Bridgerton or The Mandalorian which all have a place on IMDb’s other list of most anticipated returning TV series which can also be found on their website.
