Steven Toast has finally crossed the pond to make it big in Hollywood if the Toast of Tinseltown trailer is to be believed. Toast (Matt Berry) has had a turbulent career, to put it mildly, but don’t you fret! He’s landed a role in the new Star Wars movie! This true thespian will surely find success this round. Take that, Ray Purchase!
The official synopsis reads: “Steven Toast, actor, voice-over artist, and legend of the London theatrical scene, has reached PEAK ANGER. After a final, very violent, confrontation with his old nemesis Ray Purchase (Harry Peacock), he decides to head off for a new life in the US of A, where he has been promised a ‘leading role’ in a major Hollywood franchise movie. On the road to making it big in America he meets an extremely angry director, becomes a success in a soap opera playing a doctor, bites off the ear of a Hollywood A-lister, and gets lost in the desert… he may be out of London, but he’s never out of bad luck.”

Toast of London is the series where the epic tale of Steven Toast all began. Three successful series have audiences begging for more. Although we’re accustomed to our Toast getting in his own way of success, it appears he’s going to take a chance at cracking Hollywood. It seems only appropriate that the actor pairing up with the English cult comedy favorite would be a the American version Fred Armisen. Toast of TInseltown series premieres January 4, 2022 on BBC Two.
For those who have been gobbling up everything Matt Berry puts his efforts into, the surreal British comedy, The Mighty Boosh, in which Vince Noir (Noel Felding) and Howard Moon (Julian Barratt) have adventures filled with oddball characters while working as Zoo Keepers, before pursuing a musical career and running a second-hand shop, is where the love began. The IT Crowd, which follows the comedic misadventures of Roy, Moss and their grifting supervisor Jen, a rag-tag team of IT support workers at a large corporation headed by a hotheaded yuppie, would find Matt Berry in familar company with the unique flavor we’ve come to savor from Berry.
The FX series, What We Do in the Shadows, a mockumentary look into the daily (or rather, nightly) lives of three vampires, who’ve lived together for over 100 years, on Staten Island, showcsases Berry’s bizarre and exquisite talent of improvisation with a stellar ensemble cast as vampire, Laszlo Cravensworth. Keep your eyes peeled for the fourth season.
But if you’re beginning to think that Matt Berry has been blessed with just one indisputable talent, you simply must clap your ears around the man’s music. When Berry’s first album, ‘Witchazel.’ dropped, many music/Berry lovers had to see what it was all about. The man is a audio genius! Proof? Take a listen!
