Filming on the extensive reshoots for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now finished.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has finally fully entered post-production thanks to the completion of the recently reported reshoots. The next outing in the hugely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe underwent some much-publicized reshoots toward the end of last year, with many concerned that production on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had seemingly gone backward quite late in the game. Well, according to Deadline, the reshoots are now finished, additional photography has wrapped, and everything is as it should be.
While reshoots are pretty typical when it comes to crafting big tentpole movies such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, concern grew over the sheer size and seriousness of these particular reshoots. The crew behind the Marvel flick were given two full months for additional filming, with many wondering why this would be necessary so late into production. Of course, it’s highly likely this was simply due to the conflicting calendars of the large ensemble cast, but many have since theorized that the events of prior MCU outings such as Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home could have affected the plot of Doctor Strange 2.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will further explore the multiverse that has slowly been unleashed on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the majority of the plot remains a closely guarded secret, a recent synopsis has offered some clues. “The door of the multiverse, full of mystery and madness, opens.” The outline begins, before hinting at the ramifications of the multiverse and the madness that will ensue. “To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, and the Avengers’ most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone. Even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange…”
Spider-Man: No Way Home has now demonstrated how the multiverse can be used to bring surprising characters into the Marvel fray, with many suggesting that the substantial reshoots have been used to add more characters to the already stacked roster of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Among the suspects are the likes of Loki and Sylvie and Ant-Man and the Wasp, with many even suggesting that the multiversal adventure will be used to introduce both The X-Men and The Fantastic Four.
Directed by renowned filmmaker Sam Raimi from a script written by Jade Bartlett and Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, and will mark the debut of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 6, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
