Secret Invasion Set Photos Reveal First Look at Emilia Clarke’s MCU Debut

Emilia Clarke has been cast in a mystery role for Secret Invasion and a peek at her character can be seen in new set photos.

Emilia Clarke is on location shooting scenes for Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion series. In development for Disney+, Secret Invasion will star Clarke in a role that’s yet to be officially revealed. While no one knows exactly which character she’ll be playing, she was recently photographed on the set filming scenes for the project, as was co-star Samuel L. Jackson. You can see the images below.

We can only speculate who Clarke will be playing in the series, but Jackson is obviously returning as Nick Fury. He’ll be co-starring in the series alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill. Kingsley Ben-Adir will also play a villain with other cast members includnig Olivia Colman, Christopher McDonald, Killian Scott, and Carmen Ejogo.

Secret Invasion is a part of the MCU’s Phase Four. The show is created by Kyle Bradstreet and inspired by the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. Bradstreet also serves as head writer and executive produces alongside Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Jonathan Schwartz. Marvel Studios is producing the series.

Emilia Clarke Makes Her Marvel Cinematic Universe Debut in Secret Invasion

This could end up becoming a longtime role for Emilia Clarke, or it could be that Secret Invasion will be a one-and-done foray into the MCU for the actress. Because she cannot divulge any details whatsoever about her character, Clarke has been unable to say what the long-term plans are concerning her stay in the MCU. She did however suggest she’d be happy to stick around if that’s what the role called for, so if this is a major character, we could very well see her moving on to other MCU projects.

“I mean, I should be so lucky is what I’ll say to that,” Clarke told THR last year. “Everyone I know and everyone I’ve spoken to who is a part of the Marvel universe — and actors talk! Everyone has only the highest praise to offer. There’s a reason why actors stay in it. They’re so loved because they’re having loads of fun. So I’m down for that.”

Clarke may be best known for her breakout role as Daenerys Targaryan on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. While the series ended with great controversy, Clarke’s performance had been widely praised throughout the entire show’s run. She has also appeared in movies like Terminator Genisys as Sarah Connor, Solo: A Star Wars Story as Qi’ra, and Above Suspicion as Susan Smith. The actress also has a voice role in the upcoming animated movie The Amazing Maurice, which also stars Hugh Laurie, David Thewlis, and Gemma Arterton.

Secret Invasion is expected to arrive on Disney+ in late 2022, but an official premiere date has not yet been announced by the streamer.
