Uncharted Audiobook Adaptation to Be Narrated by Nathan Drake’s Video Game Voice Actor

The audiobook version of Sony’s Uncharted movie will be told by a very familiar voice, especially for fans of the original video games. Variety reports that Nolan North, the actor who provided the voice of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted video games, has been tapped to narrate the official novelization’s audiobook. North will be voicing every character in the story, including the younger Drake portrayed by Tom Holland in the live-action film.

“I got to do Antonio Banderas, a little bit of a Mark Wahlberg and put on my own Boston accent a little bit,” North says. “And then Nathan Drake. I didn’t do Tom Holland, though. I kind of just did me. I tried to young him up a little bit.”

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Gamers may best appreciate Nolan North for voicing Nathan Drake in uncharted, providing the adventurer’s voice in multiple games released between 2007 and 2016. His voiceover work in video games also includes playing characters like Iron Man, Deadpool, Penguin, and more, with some of his other work including The Last of Us, Assassin’s Creed, and Call of Duty. He’s also appeared in movies like Star Trek Into Darkness along with TV shows such as Pretty Little Liars and Melrose Place.

Uncharted: The Official Movie Novelization is scheduled to be released by Penguin Random House Publishing on Feb. 22, days after the movie’s Feb. 18 premiere date. The book was penned by S.D. Perry, who’s written novelizations for other significant franchises like Alien and Resident Evil.

Tom Holland Plays a Younger Version of Nathan Drake

Sony Pictures Releasing

Nathan Drake is a bit older in the video games, but the Uncharted film serves as an origin story of sorts, imagining the character as in his early 20s. Fans and critics have taken to Holland in the role, at least from what’s been seen so far. The actor has also explained how vital it was for this video game adaptation to find the right director in addition to a great lead star.

“Some of [the directors] came in, and had ideas that we didn’t like, that just didn’t fit the characters, and we had to move on to other people,” Holland told Total Film. “We took inspiration from everyone. There were very different variations of Drake, and very different variations of Sully. Some people preferred to make the game, some people wanted to make it completely different to the game. It was an interesting process – one that I wouldn’t like to be in again. It’s quite stressful looking for a director.”

Ruben Fleischer is directing the Uncharted film using a screenplay by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. The film stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. You can read the film’s official synopsis below.

Street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother…but only if they can learn to work together.

Uncharted is set to be released in theaters on Feb. 18, 2022.
