Early The Rings of Power Reactions Praise Amazon’s Vision for the Lord of the Rings Prequel

The first fan reactions to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power have now surfaced online. And things are sounding very promising indeed. Despite not being due to land on Amazon Prime Video until September, a lucky group of Lord of the Rings fans were recently invited to view footage from the studio’s upcoming prequel series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

As well as being privy to exclusive footage from the series, they were also given the opportunity to meet the showrunners behind The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, with the audience, which included around 30 of the biggest Lord of the Rings fans you will ever find, then encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings online. One such attendee, Tolkien Professor, who also happens to be the President of Signum University and scholar of J.R.R. Tolkien stated that the prequel series “is in VERY good hands.”

The praise and positivity continued with the Chair of the Tolkien Society, Shaun Gunner, who says he “fell in love with their vision.”

The high praise for what the attendees were shown by Amazon surrounding The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power goes on and on, with even those who were once skeptical leaving the event with a sense of cautious optimism.

Major Lord of the Rings aficionado Nerd of the Rings was also invited along, leaving a half-hour video detailing the experience and concluding that “My trajectory on this show has gone from cautious to cautiously optimistic, with excitement creeping in.”

Lord of the Rings superfan, Tea with Tolkien, was also one of the lucky ones, and ran through the event in a lengthy blog post. “As a lifelong Tolkien fan, I’m no stranger to seeing adaptations go off the rails or Tolkien’s creative works being exploited for profit, so I will always retain some level of nervousness toward anything set in or inspired by Middle-earth,” they said of the experience. “But after learning so much more about the show and its creators, I do feel quite a bit more confident going forward. From what I’ve seen, it seems to me that this show is in competent hands.”

You can check out even more of the reactions courtesy of The One Ring, but so far, the general consensus seems to be that, despite concerns and misgivings, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power could end up being something quite magical and worthy of the Tolkien legacy.

The Rings of Power Will Explore the Second Age of Middle-earth

Prime Video

Amazon Studios’ The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will explore for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the series will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Starring Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Sophia Nomvete, Charlie Vickers, Charles Edwards, and Benjamin Walker, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is due to premiere on Amazon Prime on September 2, 2022.
