Old Navy Loose Shirt and Pull-On Shorts I Editor Review

I don’t know about you, but recently, I’ve been drawn to matching sets. Case in point: I recently stumbled across the Scoop Crochet Sleeveless Crop Top and Midi Skirt at Walmart and felt like a million bucks. Admittedly, I’m still riding the high of that good find and convinced that I manifested yet another epically good co-ord in Old Navy’s new-arrivals section. Enter the Navy Short-Sleeve Loose Shirt ($30) and the matching High-Waisted Textured Cotton Pull-On Shorts ($30).

I immediately fell in love with the royal-blue hue (dubbed “Catalyst Blue” on the brand’s website). I have been seeing this color everywhere lately and knew it was time to make a move before it sold out, hence the record-fast Old Navy order. I scooped up the top and bottom, and by the time they arrived in the mail, temperatures in Minnesota had reached the 80s. That, teamed with the fact that my apartment building’s pool opened, set the stage for this ensemble’s big debut.

What I Like About This Old Navy Set

The real question is, what don’t I like about this Old Navy set? Answer: nothing! The top and shorts (both made of 100 percent cotton, FYI) are really soft, lightweight, and loose fitting, which is great for super-hot days. But my favorite detail is the all-over shirring of the double-weave cotton fabric, which adds an elevated touch that looks and feels luxe.

What Occasion Is This Old Navy Set Good For?

This matching set is undeniably versatile, but I think it’s the perfect ‘fit for throwing on over your swimsuit before heading to the beach or pool. How I wore it? Keeping with the monochromatic theme, I wore a matching bikini underneath the set and wore the top open instead of buttoned up. I slipped on my go-to slides, grabbed a tote bag full of reading material, and booked it to a lawn chair.

Would I Recommend This Old Navy Set?

Hell yes! This matching set screams summer style. If my Old Navy collection weren’t as extensive, I’d consider ordering it in one of the other five colors or the striped version — see: the Short-Sleeve Striped Shirt ($30) and the High-Waisted Striped Shorts ($30) — but at this rate, I need to slow my roll; this editor is obsessed.

What’s Worth Noting About This Old Navy Set

Before you add this set to your cart, you should keep in mind that both the shirt and the shorts run a bit big, meaning they’re ideal for someone looking for a loose, slightly oversize fit. I ordered my usual size medium and liked the comfortable fit, but some shoppers mentioned they’d prefer sizing down for a more fitted look. Also worth mentioning: some reviewers were concerned that the material was sheer, but I found that the blue set offered plenty of coverage.
