The season premiere of the reality game show featuring relatives of celebrities ended in dramatic fashion on Monday.

What is meant to be lighthearted competition resulted in a cheating scandal during the debut of the Jonas brothers’ new series Claim to Fame, where mystery contestants are challenged to guess the famous relatives of their fellow cast mates. As with any game show, there are rules and for this one, no internet, no television and no access to the outside world is allowed. Contestants are not allowed to have personal phones, but during the first elimination, Kevin and Frankie Jonas revealed that one of the contestants cheated by using their phone. The guilty culprit was Maxwell Norris, grandson of martial arts actor Chuck Norris, who was seen using a smuggled phone underneath a comforter, a clear violation of the no electronic devices rule.

To everyone’s surprise, Kevin Jonas made an announcement after producers called him off the set:

“As you know, when you came to the house, we took all your devices to protect your identities, keep away information, to make sure the game was fair to everyone. And one of you has broken that rule. As you guys know, we take this very seriously. We want you to take the game seriously. This is truly a competition.”

After revealing to the cast and viewers that Norris is the grandson of the Walker Texas Ranger star, everyone was shocked and worried about what granddaddy Chuck would do. Fellow contestant Logan asked:

“Why the hell would you cheat? I’d be nervous to go home to my grandfather, and my grandfather ain’t even Chuck Norris. So good luck. Have fun, Max.”

EW reached out to Maxwell for an update. The 22-year-old said in a statement:

“I have not told my grandpa that I will be on Claim to Fame. I’ll let you know when he does end up watching and share any reaction he may have to my brief appearance. Most kids don’t want to disappoint their grandparents, and no one wants to disappoint Chuck Norris!”

Another contestant, Pepper, was on the verge of guessing Maxwell’s identity when the producers called a halt to the proceedings. The surprise twist saved Pepper from being sent home because her guess that Maxwell was a relative of Steven Spielberg would have been incorrect. Claim to Fame will feature relatives of Emmy, Grammy and Oscar winners, movie stars, supermodels, MVP hall of famers, and one star who is the “greatest of all time.” The show airs on Mondays on ABC at 10:00 p.m. EST.
