Spider-Man 3’s Bryce Dallas Howard Open to Multiverse Return as Gwen Stacy

The monumental success of Spider-Man: No Way Home may have fans wondering who might be showing up in the inevitable next film, now that the multiverse has blown the door wide open for more mixing of different movie universes. Featuring the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Peter Parker, Tom Holland, No Way Home also brought in different characters from the previous live-action Spider-Man films. That notably included Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Spider-Men.

Back in 2007, Bryce Dallas Howard picked up her first Marvel role by appearing as Gwen Stacy in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. She would have likely returned for the planned sequel that never got made, but because that film was scrapped, Howard wound up saying goodbye to that character just as quickly as she had been cast. As other characters from Raimi’s Spider-Verse were featured in No Way Home, it’s hypothetically possible that Howard could reprise the role of Stacy at some point in the future.

If you were to ask Howard herself, she’d be happy to reprise the role. Speaking with People, the actress said how much fun she had on that project, making it an easy decision to revisit Gwen Stacy if that’s a call that ever comes in. With that said, Howard says she sees Emma Stone as the definitive version of Gwen after starring with Garfield in two Amazing Spider-Man movies.

“That would be so fun. Since we are exploring multiverses — and by we are exploring it, they are exploring it and I’m enjoying it. I would always be game. With Gwen Stacy, Emma Stone, in my perspective as a fan, is the definitive Gwen Stacy in that universe.”

Bryce Dallas Howard Has Other Roles She’d Love to Revisit

Touchstone Pictures, Blinding Edge Pictures, and Scott Rudin Productions

Bryce Dallas Howard went on to name the other roles she had in mind if she could revisit any of her previous characters. She was quick to name her role from the M. Night Shyamalan movie The Village along with the part she played in an episode of Black Mirror. However, her Jurassic World franchise role seems to be the part that stands out the most for Howard at this stage of her career.

“There are a few characters that definitely will never leave me. I would never say no to being Ivy Walker again. It was my first part, The Village. I loved being Lacie Pound in Black Mirror. And getting to be Claire [in Jurassic World] has been incredible. What is so interesting for me is I’ve never played a character before Claire where there was any story beyond the initial one. In part, that’s because I hadn’t done TV, and I also would sign on to franchises — because I love franchises — but I would always be in the third movie or, like, the last one, so I’d get killed or something!”

Howard will next appear in the upcoming Apple TV+ movie Argylle alongside Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson.
