Vin Diesel Suggests Marvel Wants to Do a Planet X Solo Groot Movie

Vin Diesel’s Groot is one of the most popular members of the MCU, and according to the actor he could be in line to get his own movie.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been expanding in some new and unexpected ways recently, with the likes of Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night delving into darker Marvel lore, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law going down a meta-comedy route, and future movies like Blade and Thunderbolts continuing to push the boundaries of the MCU. Could the future of the franchise also include a solo Groot movie? It could according to star Vin Diesel, who has provided the repetitive but iconic Guardians of the Galaxy character since 2014, who says Marvel want to make a Planet X movie, which is Groot’s home planet.

As well as appearing all of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Groot has been an integral part of the MCU. In Avengers: Infinity War, Groot literally gave his arm to help Thor create Stormbreaker, and after returning for the final battle of Avengers: Endgame has been seen in Thor: Love and Thunder as well as getting his own series of cute, hilarious shorts on Disney+. So could Marvel now be contemplating giving the character his own movie? Maybe…or maybe not. In a post on his Instagram account, Diesel posted an image of Baby Groot relaxing with cucumber on his eyes, commenting that his niece had thanked him for doing the Groot shorts, and then dropping a potential spoiler for the future. He said:

“So my niece called me and said… thank you uncle Vin for making I Am Groot, haha… the shorts written and directed by the talented Kristin Lepore. It was a blast making, but it’s also a blast watching it with my angels. No wonder Marvel wants to make the Planet X movie.”

Vin Diesel Has Been Known To Drop a Few Marvel Spoilers

Disney Platform Distribution

There has always been a small number of Marvel stars who have been the source of many spoilers and early revelations over the years, some by accident, others seemingly on purpose. Since there has been no official word on any kind of solo Groot project being on the cards, Diesel’s post could be one such spoiler, or it could be part of something else, such as say Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.4.

Diesel was previously responsible for announcing that Thor: Love and Thunder would feature the Guardians of the Galaxy, and he revealed that Alpha Groot will be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, although that is something that the movie’s director James Gunn has since denied is happening. Whether his comments about Marvel wanting to return to Groot’s home planet is something that will come to fruition, and could even be set up by the new Guardians movie is something that is currently not known, but with there being plenty of fan theories that some big character deaths could be on the cards, and that could leave the likes of Groot needing some to reconnect with his own kind. That could well be a story for the future, but if it does come, it will likely have to wait until Phase 7 with the next few years firmly focused on the Multiverse Saga.
