Better Call Saul Co-Creator Reacts to Viral Mario Kart Mashup

A video going viral depicting the characters of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul battling in Mario Kart has gotten the attention of Peter Gould.

With the Breaking Bad franchise lying dormant following the finale of Better Call Saul, fans have been finding other ways to keep themselves entertained with the beloved characters. Some have taken to editing footage of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and others into video game footage, as seen in a previous video that went viral of the Breaking Bad characters racing for the gold in a Mario Kart game. A new video that’s now going viral, having chalked up more than 4.5 million views with a share on Twitter, reveals some of the most popular stars of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul duking it out in the game’s Balloon Battle mode.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The video was created by Madroz, and you can check it out below.

The video depicts Breaking Bad favorites Walter White, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), and Hank Schrader (Dean Norris), as well as others who were also main characters on Better Call Saul like Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis), and Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks). Better Call Saul’s Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) and Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) are also in the Balloon Battle, with the video expertly inserting footage from the shows at the right moments to really make it seem like these characters are battling Mario Kart style with flying turtle shells.

If only that’s how they could’ve handled their problems in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

After going viral, the video even managed to capture the attention of Peter Gould, who co-created Better Call Saul with Vince Gilligan. Impressed by what the creative fans of the series have been coming up with, Gould could simply write in response to the viral video, “Amazing!!!”

Breaking Bad Had a Mobile Game

FTX Games

Gilligan has previously stated on the Inside the Gilliverse podcast that he was interested in getting Breaking Bad turned into a GTA-style video game, but eventually abandoned those plans when he realized how expensive and complicated the process to make games can really be. However, the franchise did get an official video game of sorts with the mobile game Breaking Bad: Criminal Elements, which was released in June 2019. Though it was officially licensed and featured many fan favorites from the show, it didn’t have a long life, as it was shut down the following year.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul saw their overall story come to an end this year with the Saul finale, as there are no plans at this time for more TV shows to be made set in that universe. For now, the cast and creators are focusing on other projects. That includes a new series lined up at Apple TV+ from Gilligan that will feature Rhea Seehorn in a lead role.
