Aldis Hodge Will Play Alex Cross in New TV Show

An Alex Cross TV series, based on the long-running book series by James Patterson, is coming to Prime Video, Deadline reports. Aldis Hodge will play the titular character, a detective and forensic psychologist whose also a doting father and family man. He’s also single-mindedly obsessed with digging into the psychoses of the killers he hunts and their victims.

The series, which hails from Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television, is described as a “complex and twisted thriller” created by producer and writer Ben Watkins. Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, and Craig Siebels will executive produce. Patterson, Bill Robinson, and Patrick Santa will be executive producing for James Patterson Entertainment. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost will be executive producing for Skydance Television.

“We are proud to work with James and Ben alongside Paramount Television, Skydance, and the extremely talented Aldis Hodge, who we know will do an exceptional job of bringing Alex Cross to life,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios.

The role Hodge’s most famous for is Alec Hardison, a computer hacker and all-around geek, in Leverage, which he went on to reprise in the recent reboot, Leverage: Redemption. Though unfortunately for some, his other commitments led to him being bumped down to recurring status, at least in the first season.

Recently, you would have seen Hodges as Carter Hall/Hawkman in the recent Black Adam film, opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Pierce Brosnan. Some of Hodges’ other credits include appearing as Jim Brown in Regina King’s directorial debut, One Night in Miami. He also appeared in the Blumhouse adaptation of The Invisible Man alongside Elizabeth Moss.

Next, you’ll see him acting alongside his brother Edwin Hodge in the upcoming film, Parallel, produced by Hodge Brothers Productions. He’s also set to star in an upcoming romantic heist film from director Keir O’Donnell, where he will appear opposite Joe Keery and Camila Morrone.

About Alex Cross

“James Patterson is among the best at captivating audiences with his undeniably enthralling novels and we are confident that with Ben Watkins’ artistic vision, Cross will do the same for our global customers.”

The first two books in the series, Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls, were adapted in 1997 and 2001, respectively, in the opposite order they were published. Both of which starred Morgan Freeman as Cross. Then, in 2012, the franchise was rebooted with Tyler Perry playing the detective in Alex Cross, an adaptation of the twelfth novel in the series, simply titled Cross.

A plot synopsis for the series has not been made available, but the show’s writers have plenty of material to choose from. The Alex Cross book series is currently at 30 installments and counting. That’s also without going into the novellas or the spin-off series centering on Cross’s youngest song, titled Ali Cross.
