The co-star discusses his role in the long-awaited installment of the Indiana Jones saga, including time spent off set with Harrison Ford.

Antonio Banderas will have a role in the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 film, albeit a minor one. In an interview with Collider, he called his contribution to the movie more of a ‘cameo’ than a major role, although he’s very grateful to be a part of the franchise:
“My character is very little; it’s almost a cameo… He’s just a friend of Indiana’s character, and he’s looking for him because he needs something from his friend. But he just takes up very little time of the movie, but very happy to be part of a saga that is of the history of motion pictures, obviously.”
While no official images of Banderas’ look in the upcoming film have been revealed, it’s easy to picture him in laid back-bar, reminiscing with Indy on times past and catching up with each other. Despite his limited screen time, Banderas was able to spend some time with Harrison Ford off set, and had some kind words to say about the leading actor:

“Just the fact that I step on the set, for me, was important. And I got to tell you: I had a great time with Harrison. He’s a gentleman on the set and outside of the set. I share some dinners with him and some time, and what a gentleman.”
It’s a dream come true for Banderas, who was impressed when he saw an Indiana Jones film in theaters when he was much younger. He also had stated that he was starstruck when he first saw Ford on set and in costume, complete with the iconic hat and whip. It’s Banderas’ first entry in the saga, although it might not be his last, as a Disney Plus TV show based on the film series is rumored to be in the works. A cast for the TV show has not been revealed.
Banderas starred in another archeological-adventure film earlier this year: Uncharted. It’s based on the video game series of the same name, which was in turn inspired by previous Indiana Jones films. However, Banderas boasts a much bigger role in Uncharted: the film’s antagonist.
