According to The Hollywood Reporter, the official list of nominations for the 2023 Golden Globes has been released. The awards show is set to air early next year on January 10th, with numerous films and television shows on the roster.
Among the many strong contenders for this upcoming awards season, The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) leads the pack with a sturdy eight nominations, including Best Picture as well as Writing and Directing for Martin McDonagh. The film, a dark comedy which stars Colin Farrell (The Batman) and Brendan Gleeson (The Edge of Tomorrow), revolves around two longtime friends living on the Irish isle of Inisherin who find their friendship abruptly jeopardized, leading to verbal and even violent strife that tests their will to forgive one another.

The film with the second most Globe nominations is Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), an absurdist comedy drama starring Michelle Yeoh and written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The film’s trailer debuted early last year to mostly baffled amusement, but upon its release it received a healthy dose of both critic and audience acclaim, being heralded as a rarely seen “swirl of genre anarchy” that worked extraordinarily well. The film itself revolves around a Chinese-American immigrant named Evelyn Wang who, while having her family business audited by the IRS, suddenly finds herself literally thrown into a crisis where she must find herself in numerous parallel universes in order to save the ‘multiverse’ from a powerful enemy.

Inisherin and Everything Everywhere Lead the Pack This Year
Two other films with a considerable number of Globe nominations include Babylon (2022), a period film set in the 1920s starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, and The Fablemans (2022), Spielberg’s newest project starring Michelle Williams and Paul Dano that is a fictional homage to the beginning of his career as a filmmaker. Both films have five nominations on the docket.

Various other films up for awards include Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, which steamrolled the box office from the moment it released, the riveting Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler, The Woman King starring impeccable actress Viola Davis, The Whale starring Brendan Fraser, James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar: The Way of Water, and several others. Notable television series on the roster include ones such as fan-favorite House of the Dragon, Yellowstone, Euphoria, and Better Call Saul.
