The Sons of Anarchy spinoff series will wrap up its run with season 5 on FX.

20th Television

FX is bringing Mayans M.C. to an end. THR reports that the Sons of Anarchy spinoff is officially set to conclude with its upcoming fifth season. News of the show getting renewed for season 5 dates back to last summer, though it wasn’t revealed until now that the show has been concluded. It also remains unclear when exactly season 5 will arrive, though it’s expected to premiere on FX sometime this year.

“The Mayans have battled for respect, territory and power through four intense seasons that have set the stage for an explosive fifth season that will test their very survival under ‘EZ’s’ newly claimed leadership,” FX Entertainment President of Original Programming, Nick Grad, said when the show was renewed for season 5. “Elgin James and the creative team, the brilliant cast, crew, and our partners at 20th Television have kept fans coming back for more and we are ready to take that ride with them for another season.”

James also said in a statement at that time, “I can’t wait to see what we’re able to create together moving forward. And every single member of the Mayans family, from our top of the call sheet to our set PAs and every single person in between have put their blood and sweat into making Mayans something special on the set and on the screen.”

Mayans M.C. Reaches the End of the Road

While Mayans M.C. will not last as long as its predecessor, as Sons of Anarchy spanned seven seasons, five seasons is still a respectable run. The spinoff was created by Elgin James and Kurt Sutter. Its cast includes J.D. Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Raoul Max Trujillo, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, and Vincent Vargas.

Hopefully, the story will be wrapped up in a way that satisfies fans. For now, there’s no indication of any other spinoffs for Sons of Anarchy to follow, so this could end up serving as the last fans will see of this world. An official description for the fifth and final season is as follows:

“Once the golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp, EZ, his brother Angel (Cardenas) and the rest of the Santo Padre M.C. face retaliation from other chapters after a failed attempt to align under one King. Meanwhile, EZ and Angel have grown distant from their father Felipe (Olmos) after a heart-wrenching betrayal.”

Mayans M.C. will return to FX with its fifth and final season sometime in 2023.
