  • Anita Dobson and Michelle Greenidge Join Doctor Who for Upcoming Series

Ncuti Gatwa keeps recruiting new faces for his run as the famous Doctor, which will begin this year.

BBC

Doctor Who will celebrate its 60th anniversary with three special episodes coming in November this year. These will also introduce the new iteration of the character, played by Sex Education’s breakout Ncuti Gatwa, who was announced last year as the new protagonist of the iconic show.

A few months ago, the BBC confirmed that Millie Gibson (Coronation Street) would join Gatwa as the Doctor’s companion. And now, two new faces are ready to get into the new adventure. Anita Dobson (EastEnders) and Michelle Greenidge (Small Axe) are set to be part of the cast for the next series installment.

Greenidge is known worldwide after appearing in Ricky Gervais’ lead drama series After Life, which aired on Netflix globally. On the other hand, Dobson is recognized for being married to Queen’s guitarist Brian May. She’s also a musician and a stage and screen actress.

No information has been shared about the roles the actresses will be playing. Still, they’ll probably be introduced along with Gatwa later in November, with the long-awaited celebration of the Doctor’s 60th birthday.

Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary

BBC

This year is a huge one for Doctor Who, as the beloved BBC sci-fi celebrates its 60th anniversary, with many franchise legends set to return for three special episodes, which will also welcome a new Doctor into the fold.

Although there’s still a while to wait for the highly-anticipated specials, which will welcome back David Tennant (who will now play the Fourteenth Doctor) and Catherine Tate (Donna Noble), we got the chance to enjoy a first look into it back in Christmas, after Jodie Whitaker said her goodbyes to the character in The Power of the Doctor.

The episodes will also feature Neil Patrick Harris as the main villain and the return of some classic characters, such as Mavic Chen, the President of the Solar System in the 40th century, who last appeared in 1966.

Next season of Doctor Who, along with the specials, will be under the banner of Russell T. Davis, one of the most successful and acclaimed showrunners the series has seen. He was responsible for the revival of the franchise in 2005, which earned him praise from many fans. However, he left the show in 2009 and has worked on other hits like Years and Years, A Very English Scandal, and It’s a Sin.
