  • Daredevil: Born Again Signs on Arrowverse Writers Jill Blankenship and Grainne Godfree

The writers for the new Daredevil series have experience with other superhero TV shows.

Marvel Studios

Daredevil fans rejoiced when it was announced last year that the series would be getting renewed, and new details have been emerging over the past few months. Recently, it’s been reported by Cosmic Circus that writers Jill Blankenship and Grainne Godfree will work on the screenplay for the 18-episode series. They’re familiar with superhero TV shows, with Blankenship having written Arrow and Godfree having written The Flash, with both series sharing the same universe, referred to as the “Arrowverse.” Both air on The CW.

Daredevil isn’t exactly getting a fourth season, however. The new show is called Daredevil: Born Again, with entirely new producers, directors, and writers. It’s been confirmed that Charlie Cox will return as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, the blind lawyer turned superhero, and Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise his role as the violent genius, Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin. However, it hasn’t been confirmed if Deborah Ann Woll or Elden Henson will return as Murdock’s best friends, Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.

Other new crew members include David Feige (of no relation to MCU producer Kevin Feige), who will also be co-writing the series and has real-life experience as a lawyer. Chris Ord and Matt Corman will serve as showrunners; both previously worked on the TV series Covert Affairs. In addition, Nikki M. James, who appeared in the thriller series Severance, will join the cast as a yet-unnamed character.

After three seasons, the Netflix series Daredevil was canceled in 2018, despite getting good reviews and high viewership rates. Disney, which owns the rights to most Marvel characters, including Daredevil, was about to launch its streaming service, Disney+, and wanted to helm the show by themselves.

Daredevil: Born Again Might Start with a Clean Slate

Netflix

While no plot details have officially been shared, star Charlie Cox previously hinted that Daredevil: Born Again could potentially reboot Matt Murdock’s story instead of continuing from the events of the Netflix series. It’s also been rumored that the story might revolve around the “Mayor Fisk” plotline from the comic books, in which the Kingpin is elected mayor of New York City. The series will also officially be part of the MCU, and many crossovers with other Marvel characters are highly likely.

As a Disney+ series, it’s likely to be less graphic than the Netflix series. The former streaming service is generally kid-friendly, while Netflix often explores the darker and more mature sides of its stories. However, Daredevil: Born Again will feature more legal drama, especially since a few new writers have real-life experience in the courtroom. Matt Murdock is an attorney by day and vigilante by night, although the Netflix series focused almost exclusively on the Daredevil aspect of Murdock.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to release in the spring of 2024. It will star Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Nikki M. James. The series will stream on Disney+.
