The oldest daughter of former president Barack Obama, Malia Obama, has been actively pursuing a career in the entertainment industry for years now. Writing for Swarm isn’t the first time the twenty-four-year Obama has written for a project. She has also been part of HBO’s Girls in 2015 and had a stint at the Weinstein Company in 2017.
Obama is extremely talented and the Swarm showrunner Janine Nabers can attest to it. Nabers explained to ET,
“Some of her pitches were wild as hell, and they were just so good and so funny. She’s an incredible writer. She brought a lot to the table. She’s really, really dedicated to her craft. It was like a family, just folded into [the group]. I’m really excited for everyone to get to know her work, and the work of the writers on a show.”
Nabers further added that Obama has written one of the wildest episodes for the series. Obama wrote the episode ‘Girl, Bye’ and Nabers thinks it might end up being the most unique episode on the first season of the Prime Video series. She said,
“[‘Girl, Bye’] is probably one of the wildest episodes.I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people. It’s pretty dope. I’m really proud of it.”

Malia Obama’s Impression on Swarm Stars Chloe Bailey and Dominique Fishback
Prime Video
Aside from making an impression on the showrunners, Obama also earned admiration from Swarm stars Chloe Bailey and Dominique Fishback. Both actresses gush over Obama’s work ethics. Fishback said,
“It was nice to know that she was going to be on it and that we had different voices and different generations involved in making the show. It was pretty cool to meet her. I think she’s dope.”
Bailey, on the other hand, feels like the series served as her reunion with Obama as she’s met her a few years prior. She said,
“It was always so fun and exciting getting to run into Malia and Sasha years prior… So, having that relationship with Mrs. Obama and getting to meet her daughters, I was always so honored and they always felt like my family in my head. So, getting to see Malia now, us both growing into who we are as young women and making our own mark, her as an incredible writer and me making my mark as an entertainer and an actress, it was really fun,” Bailey beams. “I was just so excited when I actually got to see her on set. I’m just so proud of her.”
Swarm is now available on Prime Video.
