GM DeCosta: Ravens open to drafting QB amid Lamar standoff

Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said the franchise is open to the possibility of selecting a quarterback in this month’s draft.

“It depends on the board, it really does,” DeCosta said Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. “I mean, I’d have to say yes because we have quarterbacks in our top 31.”

DeCosta’s comments come after Lamar Jackson revealed last week that he requested to be traded last month. The GM declined to discuss Wednesday whether the Ravens have been in contact with the former MVP since his post.

Only Anthony Brown is under contract with Baltimore as Jackson received the non-exclusive franchise tag and Tyler Huntley is a restricted free agent.

The 2023 NFL Draft is expected to feature a few talented passers, including Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis. Baltimore owns the No. 22 overall pick.

However, in addition to the headliners, DeCosta believes there’s even more talent at the position.

“I would say there’s probably more than four guys that can be significant quarterbacks in this league in this draft class,” he said.

Despite the uncertainty under center, it’s believed the Ravens will likely select a wideout or a cornerback with their first-rounder, per Hensley.
