Infinity Pool Star Mia Goth Set To Join Mahershala Ali In MCU Blade Reboot

Mia Goth has made quite a name for herself as a modern scream queen with roles in movies such as X, Infinity Pool and is expected to join Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein project. It now looks like she will also be joining the MCU as part of the cast of Marvel Studios’ Blade alongside Mahershala Ali. According to Deadline, Goth is all ready to join the highly anticipated MCU introduction of Blade, although there are currently no details available on who she could be playing in the film.

The arrival of vampire hunter Blade to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in the planning for some time, and the movie has not been without its issues. Reports have suggested that the scripting for Blade has been going through numerous rewrites, some of which seem to have been one of the reasons for the release of the film being pushed back. Back in November it was revealed that following the departure of director Bassam Tariq, Lovecraft Country helmer Yann Demange would be taking over duties on the movie, while the script would be getting a “darker” rewrite from Michael Starrbury.

The inclusion of modern horror icon Goth to the cast can only be a good thing for the movie, which has a lot of expectation resting on its shoulders. For those who have been demanding something a little darker from the MCU, it looks like the Disney-owned franchise may finally be pushing boundaries a little more for Blade’s introduction.

Should Marvel Studios Embrace More Mature Content In The MCU?

There have been plenty of times that the MCU has been rumored to be pushing the boundaries of its ever-present PG-13 target rating. However, despite projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Werewolf by Night have incorporated some horror elements to great effect, they have still kept things just the right side of the family-friendly rating.

However, Marvel have already revealed that Deadpool 3 will bring with it the first R-rated movie of the MCU, and many have expressed a hope that this is something that continues going forward. There is always a fine line to be trodden by movies when it comes to reaping the rewards of the box office, as a movie that doesn’t gain a PG-13 rating is always expected to bring in less money than a big family movie can. Recently though, Marvel’s box office struggle with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has proven that even adhering to an all-encompassing rating is no guarantee of runaway success these days.

When it comes to movies like Blade, even if the film retains a PG-13 stance, there is nothing to stop it being scary and profitable at the same time. Between casting updates and suggestions that the film has been retooled to cater to those looking for something less jolly in the MCU’s slate, the arrival of Blade is something that continues to be high on the list of anticipated titles hitting cinemas in the coming years.
