Odell: Lamar didn’t promise me anything, but I think he’ll be a Raven

New Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. expects Lamar Jackson will be throwing him passes in the near future, although it isn’t a sure thing.

Beckham signed a one-year deal worth up to $18 million with Baltimore earlier in April. He was asked Thursday whether Jackson had assured him that he would remain the team’s quarterback in 2023.

“Didn’t get any assurances for anything. You know, life’s uncertain. I think that we don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow,” Beckham said. “To me, it was just excited about the possibility of that. My thoughts would be that he would be here.”

He added: I know that (coach John Harbaugh and general manager Eric DeCosta) want him to be here. At the end of the day, it’s going to be up to them.”

Beckham said that the goal was to come to Baltimore and have the “possibility” to play with Lamar.

“I’m excited about that opportunity,” Beckham added.

Beckham and Jackson discussed joining forces while the wideout was a free agent, according to Jordan Schultz, theScore’s NFL insider. The two players also shared a screenshot of a FaceTime call after Beckham’s signing was announced.

Baltimore and Jackson haven’t found common ground on a contract extension. The Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him in March and have until July 17 to sign him to a long-term deal. However, Jackson said at the end of March that he’d requested a trade amid a stalemate in negotiations.

DeCosta reiterated Thursday that Jackson is in the Ravens’ plans and they remain hopeful of reaching a long-term deal, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec.

Beckham missed all of last season after tearing his ACL in Super Bowl LVI as a member of the Los Angeles Rams. He said he feels “great” and is still in the process of preparing for September.

The 30-year-old bolsters a Baltimore wide receiving corps that also features Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay, among others.
