Arnold Schwarzenegger Sets Big Screen Action Movie Return in Breakout

Action movie superstar and Hollywood icon Arnold Schwarzenegger will soon be back on the big screen. The Terminator star will lead the upcoming action thriller Breakout from The Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh, a report by Deadline reveals, with the project now being launched by financier Anton Corp in anticipation of the Cannes market. You can check out the synopsis for Breakout below.

“When his stepson, Daniel, is framed and sentenced to 25 years in a foreign country, Reynolds makes a daring jailbreak to save him and must overcome an overzealous prison warden in a race against time to avoid capture and flee the country.”

Schwarzenegger will lead Breakout as a man named Terry Reynolds, who is forced to make the titular jailbreak in order to save his stepson. It sounds like the perfect vehicle for Arnie, and should provide plenty of thrills for fans of the action movie legend.

“We are proud to be on board to make Scott’s vision come alive with the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead,” said producer and Anton’s Sebastien Raybaud of the project. “This is the perfect fit for Anton’s slate to continue delivering high-quality entertainment with big scale to the global market.”

Fellow producer Jeff Elliott adds, “We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Scott, fresh off the much-anticipated Expendables 4, which is going to be huge. Pair that with Arnold, arguably the greatest action star in the history of film, and this is going to be a very fun ride for audiences all over the world.”

Breakout will be directed by filmmaker Scott Waugh, who is currently hard at work on bringing The Expendables back in The Expendables 4. Writer Richard D’Ovidio (The Blacklist: Redemption, The Call) has penned the screenplay for Breakout, which is based on a story he created alongside Nicole D’Ovidio (The Call). Filming on Breakout is expected to commence this year in Eastern Europe and marks a return to the silver screen for Schwarzenegger who was last seen in theaters as the Terminator in 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate.
