Netflix’s The Witcher Season 3 Trailer Has Fans Declaring It “The Final Season”

The Witcher recently released the trailer for its third season on Netflix, the last to feature Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. While fans have been buzzing about the new season, which will be released in two parts on Netflix, they have also taken it upon themselves to declare that as far as they are concerned, season 3 is where the series ends for them.

The Witcher became one of Netflix’s most popular shows across its first two seasons, but before the arrival of season 3 it was announced that Henry Cavill would be leaving the show after being unhappy with some of the changes made to the source material, of which he is a huge fan. Following the conclusion of season 3, Liam Hemsworth will be stepping into the role for the fourth and fifth seasons, and this is something that still does not sit right for those who believe that Cavill is and always will be Geralt.

The trailer for the new season met a hugely positive response in terms of what the new episodes will deliver, but across all social media channels it generated thousands of complaints over the manner of Cavill’s departure and comments from fans declaring that after the new season, the show is dead to them. You can see some of the comments made below.

The Witcher Could End With Season 5.

Although it is yet to be confirmed, The Witcher is rumored to be filming seasons 4 and 5 back-to-back, but beyond that there is no guarantee that more seasons will follow. Much of this seems to stem from the uncertainty around how popular the show will be following Cavill’s departure. If the fan reaction so far is anything to go by, it is not surprising that Netflix are concerned about the longevity of what was once a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Season 3 of The Witcher will debut its first part on June 29, and follow this up with the second half on July 27. Although it is pretty much guaranteed that this season will be another massive hit, the future of the show will not be certain at all until Hemsworth’s first season arrives. So far, Netflix have remained silent on the many discussions on social media and their own Twitter feed in relation to Cavill’s departure and his criticism of the way the show has been handled.

When announcing that he would be leaving the series after the upcoming season, Cavill wrote:

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Despite Cavill’s encouraging fans to continue to enjoy the show once he has moved on from the lead role, it seems that many have already made up their minds where their allegiances lie. Unfortunately for Netflix, it seems to be Cavill or nothing for many of them.
