The Morning Show Is Already Renewed for Season 4

Both Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston have long since proven themselves to be incredibly talented and versatile actresses, each with numerous accolades under their belts. Since coming together on the acclaimed drama series The Morning Show, they’ve continued to flex that talent on screen behind the news desk, making the series one of the most popular on air right now. In fact, it’s become popular enough that, per a report from Collider, the show has officially been renewed for Season 4 ahead of its Season 3 premiere later this year.

The Morning Show is a drama series on Apple TV+ that is based on the 2013 book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV by Brian Stelter. Jay Carson, the show’s creator, previously worked on a number of other films and series, mostly political dramas given his extensive personal background in politics and various presidential campaigns. He’s most well-known for being a producer and political consultant on the incredibly popular Netflix series House of Cards. He was let go from The Morning Show in mid-2018 over “creative differences” before the first season aired. Executive producers on the series include lead stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Ehrin, Michael Ellenberg, Mimi Leder, Kristin Hahn, and Lauren Levy Neustadter. Starring alongside Aniston and Witherspoon are Steve Carrell (Asteroid City), Billy Crudup (Where’d You Go, Bernadette?), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki), Karen Pittman (Yellowstone), and many more.

The premise of The Morning Show revolves around Alex Levy (Aniston) who co-anchors the popular daily broadcast of The Morning Show (TMS) on the UBA network. The show has a sterling reputation with exceptional ratings, and is considered a milestone in modern television. Upon her 15th year on the network, Levy’s co-anchor Mitch Kessler (Carrell) is fired amidst a sexual misconduct scandal against him, all in the height of the Me Too movement. This paves the way for her new co-anchor Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon), a field reporter who is considered reckless and impulsive and on relatively thin ice with the network. The first season builds to an incredibly dramatic showdown that results in a bloodbath of firings, one person dead and Alex quitting. The second season opens with her having since moved to a more secluded life in Maine, and the network begging her to return in the wake of the oncoming COVID-19 pandemic. Bradley meanwhile copes with the catastrophic events of the first season.

The third season of the show, which wrapped filming back in February, is set to premiere later this year. Months ahead of that release, Apple has renewed the series for a fourth season, and is reportedly in talks with both Aniston and Witherspoon about a possible fifth season as well.

What Else Aniston and Witherspoon Have in the Works

Jennifer Aniston, who of course is most well-known for her decade-long tenure on the groundbreaking sitcom Friends, has been mostly occupied with her current role on The Morning Show, which as mentioned before is set to go on for at least one more season. She recently hit the red carpet alongside co-star Adam Sandler for action comedy flick Murder Mystery 2, which premiered in theaters on March 31. She also reunited with the original Friends cast for an HBO Max Special titled Friends: The Reunion.

Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon has also been plenty busy with a number of other projects being helmed by her production company Hello Sunshine. Among them are musical drama series Daisy Jones and the Six, My Kind of Country, Tiny Trailblazers, and All-Stars. She also served as producer on mystery thriller Where the Crawdads Sing (2022), and co-starred with Ashton Kutcher in the romantic comedy Your Place or Mine, which premiered this past February. On top of all that, she’s reuniting with the likes of Jennifer Coolidge for the long-awaited Legally Blonde 3 sequel.
