Dexter Revival May Not Bring a Definitive End to the Showtime Series Teases Michael C. Hall

A revival of Showtime’s hugely popular series Dexter came as a very pleasant surprise to those fans who have been waiting patiently for all these years to see further adventures involving the charming serial killer. Now, returning star Michael C. Hall has teased even further adventures for Dex and his precious collection of knives, with the actor saying that the upcoming season 9 may not be the last time he revisits the character.

“I’m reluctant to say ‘definitely’, you know? What’s plain now is that there’s 10 new episodes.”

Dexter viewers have been hoping for years that the character would return to make up for the lackluster season finale back in 2013, and it’s exciting to know that there may be even more following season 9. The show originally ended with the anti-hero having gone into self-imposed exile, living a solitary life as a lumberjack, with the new season set to pick up with Dexter still living alone in upstate New York. After such an extended gap since he last played the character, Hall also details how excited he is to step back into the shoes of one television’s most beloved characters.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into Dexter’s shoes. I don’t really know what to expect, as I’ve never returned to a job after so much time. Having Dexter in a completely different context, we’ll see how that feels. It’s been interesting to figure out how to do that and I thought it was time to find out what the hell happened to him.”

Michael C. Hall has also revealed that several different ideas for bringing back Dexter have been put in front of him since the show came to an unceremonious end, but this is the first one that was good enough to persuade him to take his trusty syringe in hand once again.

“I just needed the persuasion of time passing, so I could [get] some distance away from that part and have more possibilities for him. Really, it was about being presented with a story I felt was worth telling. There had been some other proposals and possibilities for Dexter, other roads we started down, but this was the first one that was worth continuing on.”

The Dexter revival has been described as a closed ended “long, 10-hour movie,” with six of the upcoming episodes set to be directed by and will be directed by Marcos Siega, who helmed several episodes during the show’s original run. Clyde Phillips will also return as showrunner. As for the cast, Clancy Brown was recently revealed to be playing the villain of the piece, Kurt Caldwell, with The Mandalorian star Julia Jones set to play Angela Bishop, the town’s first Native American Chief of Police who will no doubt get caught up in Dexter’s murderous escapades. Believe star Johnny Sequoyah is on board as Angela’s brash and opinionated teenage daughter.

Are you exited to see more from Dexter Morgan? Or should the righteous killer have been left to rest? Dexter season 9 is expected to premiere in the Fall of 2021. This comes to us courtesy of NME.
