Report: NFLPA probing agent for allegedly persuading teams to draft clients

The NFLPA is investigating agent David Canter for allegedly attempting to convince teams to draft the players he represents, sources told ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.

Canter allegedly reached out to several teams and offered the use of vacation properties owned by him if the club selected one of his players, Pryor adds.

Encouraging teams to draft a player with incentives isn’t prohibited by the union, but the investigation could find Canter in violation of the regulations for contract advisers, Pryor adds.

His attorney, Adam Kenner, confirmed that the players’ union was looking into communication between Canter and personnel from NFL teams, but he denied his client engaged in any “wrongdoing.” Kenner added that Canter was cooperating with the NFLPA and expected the situation to be resolved shortly.

Canter, who has a client list featuring numerous NFL players such as Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard and receiver Jaylen Waddle, represented 21 prospects in the 2023 draft.

Canter has been an NFLPA-certified agent since 1997.
