Koepka takes PGA Championship by 2 strokes for 5th major win

Brooks Koepka rose above Viktor Hovland and a charging Scottie Scheffler to capture his fifth major and third career PGA Championship title at Oak Hill on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

The LIV Golf star fired a 3-under 67 during the final round to take the crown by two strokes. Hovland kept the pressure on the American throughout Sunday’s action, but he ran into some trouble when he double-bogeyed the 16th to dash his chances for his first major win.

Scheffler saved his best round for last, carding a 5-under 65 to tie Hovland for second place after shooting a 73 on Saturday.

With his runner-up finish, Scheffler returned to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Canadian Corey Conners was tied for second place after the first three days, but he faded from contention with a final-round 75.

Club pro Michael Block qualified for the 2024 PGA Championship after the 46-year-old finished tied for 15th.

Koepka enjoyed a blistering start on Sunday, banking in a birdie on three of the first four holes. However, he bogeyed two consecutive holes in the front nine to give Hovland a bit of an opening. Koepka bounced back with four birdies through his last nine holes.

He also won the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019. With Koepka’s latest victory, he became the 20th golfer to win five or more majors in men’s golf history.
