The Simpsons Renewed for Two More Seasons, Taking It Through Season 34 at Fox

The Simpsons have been on the air for over three decades, and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. It has just been reported that Fox has just put in the order for another two seasons of the animated comedy series, renewing the show through its 34th season in 2023. The series had previously been renewed for two seasons in 2019, and as is the case every time the deadline nears, fans had begun speculating that the end was growing near.

“It’s a sincere pleasure to announce the season 33 and 34 pickups for The Simpsons. We keep hoping that, eventually, they’ll get it right,” Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said in a statement. “Profound respect for and congratulations to Matt, Jim, Al and the many other wonderful partners working really hard to finally elevate The Tracey Ullman Show. As they say, ‘practice makes perfect.'”

Dana Walden, chariment of entertainment at Walt Disney Television, also added: “Original, brilliant, outrageously funny, prophetic … there aren’t enough positive adjectives to describe this genius comedy which continues to entertain viewers of all age. Jim Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean lead a team of all-stars who hold such a high bar for themselves and leap over it with each spectacular episode. On behalf of everyone at our studio and the millions of fans of The Simpsons around the world, I want to thank our wonderful partners at Fox for making this a truly great day.”

News of the renewal follows previous renewals at Fox for two of the network’s other most popular cartoon shows. Last year, the Disney-owned network gave both Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers two-season renewals. This puts all three titles on the same track with the trio of shows renewed through the 2022-23 broadcast season. Of course, the renewal also further solidifies The Simpsons’ record-setting reign as the longest-running American sitcom. We are now guaranteed to get at least 757 episodes by the end of 2023.

Created by Matt Groening, The Simpsons voice cast includes Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), Julie Kavner (Marge), and Yeardley Smith (Lisa). They also portray many other characters alongside veteran voice actors Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Tress MacNeille, and Pamela Hayden. Kevin Michael Richardson has also just joined the cast as the new Dr. Julius Hibbert as part of the show’s new direction of casting Black actors to voice Black characters.

While many longtime fans have criticized the quality of the show in recent years, its place in pop culture cannot be denied. Among winning 34 Primetime Emmy Awards over the course of its run, the show also has its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a themed ride at Universal Studios Florida. Though it’s not quite as popular as it was in the 1990s, the series is still watched by millions of fans across the world.

Now in the midst of its 32nd season, new episodes of The Simpsons air Sunday nights on Fox. Season 32 episodes can be streamed the next day on the Disney-owned streaming service Hulu. Meanwhile, previous seasons of the classic series can be streamed anytime on Disney+ in their original aspect ratio. This news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter.
