Report: Pacers’ Haliburton, T-Wolves’ Edwards to play for USA at World Cup

Rising stars Tyrese Haliburton and Anthony Edwards are among the players who have committed to play for Team USA at this summer’s FIBA World Cup, sources told The Athletic’s Joe Vardon and Shams Charania.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves, Brooklyn Nets forward Mikal Bridges, Milwaukee Bucks veteran Bobby Portis, and New York Knicks floor general Jalen Brunson are also apparently suiting up for the Americans.

Golden State Warriors bench boss Steve Kerr will succeed Gregg Popovich as head coach after the latter guided the Stars & Stripes to a gold medal at the 2020 Olympics.

The United States will begin its training camp on Aug. 3 in Las Vegas. It’ll take part in exhibition contests against Puerto Rico, Greece, and Germany ahead of the World Cup.

The Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia are co-hosting this year’s tournament. The World Cup begins on Aug. 25, with the knockout stages taking place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.

Spain won the previous edition four years ago.
