After taking the world by storm with Euphoria, Sam Levinson is sparking controversy again with The Idol, a new HBO original series starring Lily-Rose Depp and musician Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd. And it seems that both series could have more in common than the name of Levinson behind them or their controversial themes.
Euphoria follows the lives of a group of teenagers navigating high school through drug and alcohol problems, sexual discovery and awakening, and more conflicts as they prepare for the next stage of their lives.
Despite seeming like a simple concept, the series delves into the lives of each character, especially Rue, the protagonist played by Zendaya.

For its part, The Idol focuses on Jocelyn, a young pop star who tries to resume her career after a family tragedy. In the midst of her hectic schedule she meets Tedros, the mysterious and enigmatic owner of a nightclub that is full of secrets and surrounded by darkness.
Their relationship will complicate things for Jocelyn, who’s already going through a rough time, while Tedros is finding a way to use her voice to get his disturbing message to more people thanks to Jocelyn’s popularity.
And although it is evident that there are several differences between both shows, after the premiere of the first episode of The Idol, fans are beginning to believe that Levinson seeks to build a universe within the two shows which could be really interesting, especially for the fans.

How Does The Idol Connects with Euphoria?

In one of the scenes from the pilot episode of The Idol, more specifically before Tedros and Jocelyn speak for the first time, the singer arrives at the club with a group of friends. Right there, in the middle of the crowd, fans have spotted none other than Alexa Demie, who plays Maddy Perez in Euphoria.
Although her appearance is brief, she interacts with the group, which includes Blackpink star Jennie, who plays Dyanne, and it has sparkled some conversation on social media about the possibility of both shows building a larger franchise:
“So basically Dyanne and Maddie meet because The Idol and Euphoria has the same universe.”
Fans will surely be on the lookout for any other connections they can find between the two series in the upcoming episodes of The Idol, arriving every Sunday on HBO. The series also stars Suzanne Son, Troye Sivan, Jane Adams, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Moses Sumney, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria.
Meanwhile, Euphoria could be releasing its third season in 2025, further prolonging its wait because of the writers’ strike. The gap between the first installment and the second was almost three years, although in 2020 and 2021 two special episodes were released that made the wait shorter. For now, it is not confirmed if there will be any other extra episodes before the arrival of the third part.
