Chiefs’ Kelce won’t retire until ‘the wheels fall off’

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon.

“Until the wheels fall off, baby,” Kelce said when asked how long he’ll play, according to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride. “I love this game, man. I know I’m going to miss it when I’m done playing.”

He added: “For right now, I’m in this building wanting to win football games.”

Kelce is entering his 11th season in the NFL after being selected in the third round of the 2013 draft. He only played one game in his rookie season, as he underwent knee surgery and landed on injured reserve that October.

The 33-year-old has since established himself as one of the best tight ends to ever play the game: He’s recorded over 1,000 receiving yards for seven straight seasons and won two Super Bowls.

Kelce is fourth on the all-time tight end receiving yards list, trailing Tony Gonzalez by 4,783 yards.

As Kelce gets older, he acknowledges that remaining tough on himself in the film room will be a key to his performance.

“I can’t watch myself on film without just absolutely telling myself that I suck 90% of the time,” Kelce said. “There are times when, you know, it’s fun, and you make a play, or you get open, and you make a good route, or you make a good block. But at the same time, you have to be your own worst critic. You can’t sit there on the time that you have success.”

The four-time first-team All-Pro has 10,344 receiving yards with 69 touchdowns in 144 career games.
