Report: Bills’ Diggs frustrated with role, voice in play-calling

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs is unhappy with his role in the team’s offense and his voice in play-calling, a source told Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

Diggs stole the headlines last week after unexpectedly skipping the first day of Buffalo’s mandatory minicamp Tuesday. The star wideout’s agent said Diggs took his physical and met with coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane prior to leaving the facility before the workouts began. McDermott later said he was “very concerned” about the star wideout’s absence.

It was unclear why Diggs – who’s signed through the 2027 season after inking a four-year, $96-million extension in April 2022 – missed practice. The issues between Diggs and Buffalo still hadn’t been resolved when the Bills reported for minicamp last week, according to Volin.

Diggs returned to practice Wednesday, with McDermott downplaying the incident and saying the three-time Pro Bowler did everything that was expected of him.

The 29-year-old also expressed frustration following a divisional-round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at home in January. Cameras showed Diggs seemingly yelling at quarterback Josh Allen on the sideline late in the fourth quarter with Buffalo down 27-10.

Diggs landed with the Bills in 2020 via trade from the Minnesota Vikings. He thrived for two years with Brian Daboll serving as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator and play-caller. The team promoted Ken Dorsey from quarterbacks coach to OC during the 2022 offseason after Daboll joined the New York Giants as head coach.

Diggs finished 2022 with 108 catches for 1,429 yards and 11 touchdowns, up from 103 receptions, 1,225 yards, and 10 scores in 2021. However, he didn’t score any touchdowns in the playoffs and was limited to 35 yards on four catches in the loss versus the Bengals.
