Spoiler Alert: This story contains cameo spoilers for The FlashThe controversial superhero film Batman & Robin recently returned to the spotlight after one of its lead stars appeared in The Flash. Filled with appearances from other DC superheroes, the movie features multiple incarnations of Batman, as the versions played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton were both featured prominently in the trailers. Filmgoers who went and saw the film were surprised to see other Bat-men popping up in The Flash, such as the Batman & Robin version played by George Clooney. As Batman & Robin has endured heavy criticism, with Clooney himself expressing regret over playing Batman in the film, the cameo was shocking for many as it had seemed so unlikely.

In any case, the conversation has made its way to one of Clooney’s co-stars from that film, Vivica A. Fox. In the movie, Fox played Miss B. Haven, a villainous assistant to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze. While recently speaking with ComicBook.com, Fox revealed that she hadn’t heard about the cameo at all at that point, and she had to be filled in on the Clooney appearance in The Flash. Suggesting she personally thought Clooney did just fine as Batman, Fox referred to him as “the one that people didn’t like so much, believe it or not,” before sharing her theory on why the film didn’t do so well.
“It’s sad, because he tried! He did a good job,” Fox said of Clooney’s Batman portrayal. “I don’t know, maybe just toward the end, [the fans] were tired of the franchise. But I had a great time filming it with him and Arnold. It was awesome.”

Vivica A. Fox Knows What Fans Did Like About Batman & Robin
Batman & Robin wasn’t welcomed with open arms by the majority of fans upon its release, though it’s developed a bit of a cult following in the years since. Fox also told ComicBook.com that while she’s sorry that the film didn’t land better with filmgoers at the time, she has nevertheless continued to sign 8×10 photos of Miss B. Haven that fans have brought to her over the years. The actress also joked that perhaps what people loved most about the movie were the outfits worn by Miss B. Haven and Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy.
“I think that was the most popular aspect of the movie — they liked my costume, and Uma’s,” she said.
Batman & Robin was directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Akiva Goldsman. Along with Fox, Clooney, Thurman, and Schwarzenegger, the film also starred Chris O’Donnell as Robin, Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, Michael Gough as Alfred, and Pat Hingle as Commissioner James Gordon. The film reportedly barely broke even after underperforming at the box office, and with a 12% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s considered to be among the least-liked superhero movies ever released.
