Squid Game Season 2 Cast Unveiled, Filming Starts This Year

Netflix has officially announced the full cast of the upcoming second season of Squid Game. Featuring a mix of some returning stars along with new cast members, some names were announced earlier this month at Netflix’s TUDUM event in Brazil. Now, the streamer has divulged the rest of the names that will be a part of the show with its upcoming second season, and better yet, it was also revealed that season 2 is expected to start filming later this year.

Per Netflix, new cast members include Park Gyu-young, one of the stars of Netflix’s Sweet Home who will also appear in the streamer’s upcoming series Celebrity; Jo Yu-ri, the singer and actress who’s a former member of the South Korean-Japanese girl group Iz*One; Kang Ae-sim, a theater and musical actress in Korea who appears in the Netflix series Move to Heaven; Lee David, best known for previously working with Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk on The Fortress; Lee Jin-uk, who also starred in Sweet Home along with Dong-hyuk’s film Miss Granny; Choi Seung-hyun, the singer and actor who starred in Tazza: The Hiddden Card and Commitment; Roh Jae-won, who appeared in the films Missing Yoon and Ditto; and Won Ji-an, who debuted in the frist season of D.P. on Netflix.

The Full Cast Has Been Revealed for Season 2 of Squid Game

Other cast members can be seen above. From left to right, the first row features Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Yim Si-wan, and Kang Ha-neul. The second roe includes Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, and Wi Ha-jun. In the third row are Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, and Lee Jin-uk. Some cast members were previously teased in an announcement video from Netflix that you can check out below.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk is also back to direct and executive produce the entire second season, this after winning an Emmy for season 1. Dong-hyuk also writes the series, while Kim Ji-yeon also serves as an executive producer. Firstman Studio is the production company.

Meanwhile, a reality competition series based on Squid Game is also heading to Netflix. Dubbed Squid Game: The Challenge, the series follows 456 players competing for a chance to win $4.56 million, all the while competing their way through challenges inspired by the real show. It will premiere on Netflix in November of this year.

Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game debuted on Netflix in 2021. The show was an immense success, going on to become the most-watched series in the world on the streaming platform. It was also met with very high acclaim with several awards bestowed upon it with 14 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. It was certainly no surprise when it was announced that a second season was in the works.

The second season of Squid Game will start filming later this year. A release date hasn’t yet been announced. Meanwhile, the first season of Squid Game is streaming on Netflix.
