Mutant Mayhem 2 Confirmed, Seth Rogen Producing Two Seasons of New TMNT TV Series

Paramount’s upcoming animated reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, is getting a big screen sequel and television series, the CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon has confirmed. Speaking with Variety, Brian Robbins revealed that the studios are now working on not one, but two seasons set within the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem alongside the big screen follow-up, with the same voice cast all set to return.

While details of both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 and the TV series are scarce at present, Robbins does reveal that the latter will “bridge” the gap between the two movies. If nothing else, the commitment to the world being introduced in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem shows that Paramount and Nickelodeon have a lot of faith in what Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Jeff Rowe have created. And audiences will be able to find out for themselves whether their faith is well-founded when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem lands in theaters next week.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have had a strangely unfulfilling big screen presence for many over the last 30 years. From the success of 1990’s cinema debut and its sequels, through animated movies and some Michael Bay spectacle, there franchise has struggled to please everyone. What fans love, critics hate, and what comic book fans love, TV cartoon lovers would gladly flush down the drain. It seems that now Paramount is hoping that Seth Rogen’s attempt to bring the amphibian foursome some much-needed big screen love will pay off with the sequel and series which is reportedly being lined up for Paramount+.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will be the first in a number of Ninja Turtle projects that are in the works, and will be released later this year. ViacomCBS already announced that a series of villain-based movies will be coming to Paramount+, and now according to Cinelinx a new unconnected series is being developed with Seth Rogen on board to produce. The details are pretty much non-existent on what exactly the series will be focused on, but the report suggests that it will released sometime in 2024. While there is yet to be a confirmation of this from Paramount or Viacom CBS, it seems likely given he amount of attention being put on the franchise in the last year.

Can Seth Rogen Deliver a Worthy Ninja Turtles Movie?

Paramount Pictures

One of the main problems with a franchise like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is that everyone has a different point where they became aware o the franchise. Some have been there since the original Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comics, others joined the party with the late 80s cartoon series, and others have come in via the various live-action and animated movies releases in the last three decades. None of these projects have been uniform in their design, with each creating their own little turtle world and pretty much ignoring what came before.

Over the years, even Eastman and Laird couldn’t always agree on how the franchise should be taken forward, leading to them both going in their own separate directions for quarter of a century before deciding to finally work together again back in 2019. For that reason alone it is understandable why there are so many ways any Ninja Turtles adaptation can fail. When it comes to Seth Rogen’s attempt to adapt the franchise, as a long-term fan, he will certainly be making a movie that appeals to at least one portion of the fan base.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has a very distinct animation style that will be either loved or hated, but it also brings with it a strong voice cast including John Cena, Rose Byrne, Paul Rudd, Ice Cube, Maya Rudolph, Giancarlo Esposito and Seth Rogen himself. The film comes to theaters on August 2, and will subsequently stream on Paramount+ along with other Ninja Turtles offerings from Paramount.
