Summary
- Many of the actors who were initially wanted for roles in Harry Potter, such as Liam Aiken and Hatty Jones, ended up not being cast due to author J.K. Rowling’s requirement for British actors.
- The upcoming Harry Potter adaptation by Warner Bros. Discovery will face the challenge of casting new actors for the iconic roles, with the studio likely looking for a mix of unknown young stars and popular names to complete the cast.
It may be hard to imagine different actors playing Harry, Ron, Hermione and even most of the secondary characters from the Harry Potter films, but back at the beginning of the 2000s when Chris Columbus was working on the first movie adaptation, many stars were considered for some of the most iconic roles. Thanks to a new batch of AI art, we can get an idea of what some of these actor’s would have looked like taking on the iconic roles.
Instagram’s user No Apto para Muggles published a series of images that show some of the most iconic characters from the franchise being portrayed by actors who could have potentially taken on the roles in different circumstances. While some of the actors were reportedly offered roles in the movie, one stipulation by author J.K. Rowling that the stars should be British ruled some of them out of the running.
“Discover these actors and actresses who were about to be part of the magical world of Harry Potter! Can you imagine what it would have been like if they had played these characters? Which of these actors do you think would have been perfect for the role?”
The images include Liam Aiken, who one of those close to being chosen as Harry Potter; Hatty Jones who was the second choice for Hermione Granger after Emma Watson; Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who auditioned for the role of Ron Weasley; Robin Williams, who wanted to play Hagrid; Tim Roth, who rejected the role of Severus Snape to work on The Planet of the Apes; Kate Winslet, whose agent rejected the part of Helena Ravenclaw; and Henry Cavill, who lost the part of Cedric Diggory against Robert Pattinson, who later also won the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight, a character Cavill was also in the running to play.

The Big Challenge that Warner Bros. Discovery Will Face with the Harry Potter Series
Warner Bros. Pictures
Most of the actors that failed to appear in the original Harry Potter movies will now be too old to be considered for the same roles in the new Harry Potter adaptation Warner Bros. Discovery is developing. But, whether some fans like it or not, new stars will soon be rising within the Wizarding World.
Casting is going to be one of the biggest challenges for the studio, since most of the characters in the movie were amazingly portrayed by young soon-to-be stars or already proclaimed actors. Even when some casting choices or characters’ portrayal were criticized, like it’s the case of Ginny Weasley, the large majority were highly praised, and it’s hard for fans to imagine other actors playing the main characters.
Warner Bros. Discovery will probably try to do something similar to what Disney did with the series adaptation of Percy Jackson, bringing some unknown young stars as the protagonists, joined by mostly popular names to complete the cast in some big roles.
