Report: Rockets attempting to trade Porter after domestic violence arrest

The Houston Rockets are trying to trade Kevin Porter Jr. after he was charged with felony assault and strangulation, sources told The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.

Porter is accused of attacking his girlfriend in an incident Monday morning. He was placed into police custody before being released, with his court date set for Oct. 16.

Houston is attempting to lure teams into taking on Porter and his new four-year, $82.5-million deal by attaching draft compensation to a trade, Charania adds.

The Rockets are reportedly hoping to make a move in order to bring in a player that can help the team immediately.

Intertwined with multiple off-court antics and run-ins with the law, Porter has averaged double figures in points in all four of his NBA seasons after being drafted with the No. 30 pick in 2019. He scored a career-high 19.2 points per game last year.

The NBA has launched its own investigation into Porter, outside of the police case.

Porter is not expected to attend training camp if he is still on the Rockets when it begins, sources told Charania.
