Colorado State coach takes shot at Deion for attire during pressers

Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell appeared to take a shot at Colorado coach Deion Sanders, criticizing people who wear sunglasses and hats during press conferences.

“I sat down with ESPN today. … I took my hat and I took my glasses off, and I said, ‘When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off, that’s what my mother taught me,’” Norvell said on “Ice Cold Sports with Tommy Gahan.”

Sanders wore a hat during his postgame press conference in Week 1 and wore sunglasses in his Week 2 media availability.

The Colorado head boss responded to Norvell’s comments Thursday.

“Why would you talk about us when we don’t talk about nobody,” Sanders said. “All we do is go out here and work our butts off and do our job on Saturday.”

Colorado State’s coaches and players have been doing interviews for ESPN, as College GameDay is being recorded in Colorado this weekend.

“It was great. I loved it,” Norvell said, according to Kyle Bonagura of ESPN. “But our kids came out of those (interviews) really with a chip on their shoulder. They’re tired of all that stuff. They really are tired of it.

“(Colorado won’t) like us no matter what we say or do. It doesn’t matter. So, let’s go up there and play. That’s just how I feel about it.”

Colorado is off to a 2-0 start this season, already eclipsing its win total of one from last season. The Buffaloes defeated last season’s national championship finalist, TCU, in Week 1. In Week 2, Colorado destroyed Nebraska, led by former Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule.

Sanders has been vocal about keeping tabs on what other coaches and analysts have been saying about himself and his team.

“I keep the receipts,” he said after defeating TCU. He also said the game against Nebraska was “personal.” His son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, said the animosity was due to comments Rhule made about the coach and Colorado.

Colorado State lost its season opener to Washington State.

The Buffaloes take on the Rams this Saturday.
