Rodgers praised Love for ‘keeping the ownership in place’ after win vs. Bears

Jordan Love kicked off his era as the Green Bay Packers’ new starting quarterback two weeks ago with a 38-20 victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 1. After the win, Aaron Rodgers – who knows a thing or two about beating Chicago – contacted Love.

“Congratulations on keeping the ownership in place,” Rodgers texted Love after the Packers pulled away late versus their archrivals, the four-time NFL MVP revealed Friday on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Love became Green Bay’s QB1 this year to replace Rodgers, whom the Packers traded to the New York Jets in the offseason. Love completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for 245 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions against Chicago.

“I didn’t see the (Atlanta) Falcons game, but I did get to see a decent part of the Bears game,” Rodgers added. “I thought (Love) played excellent, and I was really happy for him. Green Bay quarterbacks have made fans of Chicago’s days and nights pretty miserable, and I’m happy to see him picking up where I left off.”

Rodgers, the Packers’ starting passer from 2008-22, left the team with 223 starts under his belt, including 29 against the Bears. He posted a 24-5 record as a starter versus Chicago while passing for 64 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. The Rodgers-led Packers also defeated the Bears in the NFC title game during the 2010 season en route to winning the Super Bowl that year.

In 2021, Rodgers famously taunted Bears fans by shouting, “I still own you” after a fourth-quarter touchdown at Soldier Field. Green Bay has won 14 of the last 15 matchups in the series, including nine in a row.

The Love-led Packers suffered their first loss this season to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2.
