Vikings’ Jefferson ‘tired’ of hearing about lost season, trade speculation

Justin Jefferson is fed up with talk that the Minnesota Vikings should consider tanking or trading off assets amid an 0-3 start to the season.

“I’m tired of people saying that we’re looking into next season or all of the trades and stuff like that,” Jefferson said Thursday, according to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert. “We’re focused still on this season. We have a lot more games to go and we have a lot more things to accomplish this season.”

The Vikings have turned the ball over nine times, their highest through three games since 2013. The ball-security issues culminated in head coach Kevin O’Connell threatening to bench players who don’t protect the football.

Minnesota has numerous players with contracts expiring after this season, including quarterback Kirk Cousins and pass-rushers Danielle Hunter and Marcus Davenport.

However, Jefferson believes there’s too much time left to ditch aspirations for the campaign already.

“There’s things that you’ve got to go through throughout the season to really tell if you’re going to be a great team or not,” Jefferson added. “We’re handling adversity early in the season with the turnovers and being 0-3, but there is a whole bunch of more games to go.”

The Vikings trail the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, who are both 2-1, in the NFC North. Minnesota will face the Carolina Panthers on the road Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
