SpongeBob SquarePants has not only conquered Bikini Bottom, he has also conquered the world and will continue to do so. Nickelodeon has renewed the acclaimed animated series for a fifteenth installment, which will bring it closer to breaking an important record for the network.
Bob first appeared on the small screen in 1999, created by Stephen Hillenburg. No one would have imagined back then, after the premiere of that first season, that the fun and charismatic character would become a global phenomenon, broadcast in dozens of countries and transcending generations.
SpongeBob SquarePants has already become one of Nickelodeon‘s most iconic series, but it could soon break an incredible record. Paramount announced the renewal of the show for a 15th season, even though the 14th has not yet premiered. The next batch of episodes will bring the series to a total count of 345 episodes, a number that will increase with season 15. This will bring it closer to the 590 episodes that Double Dare has, which is currently the series with the most episodes in Nickelodeon history.
SpongeBob SquarePants follows the adventures of the titular character, his friends and neighbors in Bikini Bottom, a small town placed under the sea. In addition to the popular series, Bob has had several adventures on the big screen with three films.

In 2025, Bob will return to the big screen in his fourth cinematic adventure, which promises to be his biggest and most incredible one yet. In his first movie, after Plankton steals King Neptune’s crown and frames Mr. Krabs, Bob assures Neptune that he will go to Shell City to get his crown back. Bob’s second big journey takes him to the world above water after the recipe for Krabby Patties mysteriously disappears. In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Bob and Patrick Star travel to the lost city of Atlantic City to rescue Bob’s pet, Gary.
Few details have been revealed about the character’s fourth film, which will once again be a live-action/animation hybrid. What has been confirmed is that Bob will venture to the depths of the ocean, taking him, his friends and the audience to new territories never explored in the franchise before.
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is one of four films currently in development based on the character. The list also includes Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, which will hit the Netflix screen in 2024. The story follows a new adventure of Sandy Cheeks and Bob, who must travel to Texas after all the inhabitants of Bikini Bottom are taken from the ocean as part of a great conspiracy.
The movie will bring back Carolyn Lawrence, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Bill Fagerbakke, Mr. Lawrence, Rodger Bumpass to play Sandy, SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Patrick Star, Plankton and Squidward Tentacles, respectively. Joining them will be Wanda Sykes, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson, Gray DeLisle, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, and Matty Cardarople.
