  • The impact of Orphan Black continues with expanded storylines in comics and podcasts, with Orphan Black: Echoes promising a mysterious and captivating new chapter.
  • The spinoff will have a different approach, featuring a female-led cast and delving into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence.

The world of Orphan Black will expand once again with Orphan Black: Echoes, the next spinoff of the science fiction series that will explore the lives of new characters but within the same reality presented by the show starring Tatiana Maslany.

Released 10 years ago, in 2013, Orphan Black quickly became one of the great science fiction stories of recent years on television. With an incredible acting display by Maslany playing various characters in the show, the story focuses on a woman who usurps the identity of a detective that looks exactly like her, without knowing that this event will unleash absolute chaos in her life when she discovers that woman is in fact a clone, and not the only one.

Despite having ended in 2017, the impact of Orphan Black is still present, thanks to the fact that its story has expanded to the world of comics and even podcasts with an audio series titled Orphan Black: The Next Chapter. Orphan Black: Echoes will be the next great chapter in the franchise, presenting a new crop of leading characters and a story that promises to be as mysterious and captivating as the original.

Next week, the show will have a panel at New York Comic Con, where new plot details will surely be revealed, and the official trailer will be shared. Preparing fans for this, the official Orphan Black X page shared an image of Maslany as Alison Hendrix, one of the main clones from the original series:

What’s Orphan Black: Echoes About?

AMC

Starring Jessica Jones’ alum Krysten Ritter, the new series will not feature Maslany and the famous “sestras” but will continue to explore the enormous scientific conspiracy presented in the original show. What it will have in common with Orphan Black is that, once again, women will be the main protagonists of the story.

Earlier this year, speaking with Radiotimes.com during Orphan Black’s 10-year celebration, series co-creator John Fawcett teased a very different approach for the spinoff:

“The spinoff is a very different show. If you go with the expectation that you’re going to see Orphan Black, you’re going to probably be disappointed. It’s got its own feel, it’s got its own identity. What makes it Orphan Black, there’s a bit of a slow burn to it. I think it’ll be exciting for fans to discover.”

Check out the official synopsis for the series:

“Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.”

Orphan Black: Echos also stars Avan Jogia, Amanda Fix, Keeley Hawes, James Hiroyuki Liao, and Zariella Langford.
