Reese Witherspoon has made a huge impact in the world of movies and television, producing stories for a wide audience with her company Hello Sunshine. And the actress is very clear about what kind of stories she wants to tell, and which she doesn’t.
Witherspoon started acting in 1991, appearing in the television film Wildflower and the movie The Man in the Moon, at just 15 years old. Her big break came in 1999 thanks to Cruel Intentions, and from there Witherspoon’s hold on Hollywood grew until she gradually became one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood, something affirmed with 2001’s Legally Blonde.
In 2003, she also began producing, and in 2006 she won the Oscar for Best Actress for Walk the Line, making it clear that she was already a legend in the industry. In 2016, she founded Hello Sunshine, a multimedia company with which she has developed a long list of projects, including the successful series Big Little Lies and The Morning Show, both of which she starred in.
And while Witherspoon’s goal has always been to bring all kinds of stories to the screen, especially focused on women, she knows very well that there are some plots and characters that do not interest her. During her presentation at Hello Sunshine’s inaugural Shine Away event, the actress reflected on the type of messages she wants to deliver to the audience (via The Hollywood Reporter):
“I’m not meant to be doing dark, heavy, intense, horror, gore, darkness movies. People like to see me do light movies, and I was like, OK. It doesn’t put you in the cool kids club a lot but I don’t care, I don’t want to be in the cool kids club. I want to make optimistic stuff that makes girls excited to be women in this world, because it is a wonderful thing to be a woman in this world.”

Reese Witherspoon Will Continue Bringing Powerful Women to the Screen
While she continues to dazzle the world with her great portrayal of Bradley Jackson on The Morning Show, Witherspoon is preparing to once again play two great female characters that marked her career. On the one hand, she will once again put on Elle Woods’ high heels in Legally Blonde 3.
Additionally, Witherspoon will also star in the sequel to her 1999 film, Election. The original movie, based on the novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta, follows an ambitious young student who will do everything possible to win the school elections, including taking on a teacher that doesn’t like her. The second part, also based on another novel by Perrotta, will follow the character years later, as the vice principal of a school who seeks to be chosen as the new principal, which will awaken her competitive spirit.
